Everything Included in Family Program

Our PHP program combines clinical depth with holistic wellness. Expand each category to explore what's inside.

Small, facilitated process groups of fewer than 10 clients meet daily from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. These sessions provide a safe space to share experiences, process emotions, and build peer support — a core element of the PHP experience.
Daily psychoeducation from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM covers topics including CBT and DBT skills, relapse prevention, coping strategies, and understanding the neuroscience of addiction and mental health conditions.
One-on-one sessions with your assigned therapist 1-2 times per week. Therapies include CBT, DBT, EMDR, Motivational Interviewing, experiential therapy, and trauma-focused modalities tailored to your needs.
Daily wellness programming from 1:00 to 2:00 PM addresses five pillars: physical fitness, nutrition, mindfulness, sleep hygiene, and stress management. These sessions build sustainable habits that support long-term recovery.
From 2:00 to 3:00 PM, clients choose from elective programming including art therapy, music therapy, journaling, yoga, and other experiential activities designed to reinforce clinical skills in a creative setting.
Dedicated case management with a 72-hour response guarantee. Your case manager coordinates with insurance, schedules appointments, connects you with community resources, and ensures continuity of care throughout your program.
Board-certified physicians manage MAT protocols including Suboxone, Vivitrol, Brixadi, Naltrexone, and Topamax. Medication management is integrated with your therapy plan and monitored by our clinical team at weekly Wednesday team meetings.
Facilitated group therapy sessions with fewer than 10 clients. Process groups address daily challenges, emotional triggers, relationship dynamics, and recovery progress in a supportive, confidential environment.
Structured educational sessions covering evidence-based therapeutic modalities: CBT skill-building, DBT distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness, EMDR trauma processing, and relapse prevention strategies.
Nutritious catered lunch provided daily. Mealtime is an integral part of the program — building community, practicing social skills, and supporting physical health as part of holistic recovery.
Dedicated wellness hour addressing the five pillars: physical fitness, nutrition, mindfulness/meditation, sleep hygiene, and stress management. Rotating activities keep engagement high and build sustainable healthy routines.
Client-choice elective sessions including art therapy, music therapy, journaling, yoga, and other experiential modalities. Electives reinforce clinical learning through creative expression and hands-on engagement.
Your first week includes a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment, individualized treatment planning, orientation to the facility and daily schedule, and introduction to your clinical team. Most patients feel settled and engaged by day three.
Every Wednesday, the full clinical team — therapists, case managers, psychiatrist, and program director — convenes to review each client's progress, adjust treatment plans, coordinate care, and address any emerging needs.
As you progress, your clinical team prepares you for step-down to IOP (Stage 2: Activate). Transition planning includes relapse prevention strategies, scheduling continuity, and a gradual increase in independence while maintaining clinical support.
Valley Spring offers a dedicated women's track within PHP, providing gender-specific group therapy that addresses trauma, family dynamics, body image, co-dependency, and other issues that disproportionately affect women in recovery.
PHP runs 6 sessions over 6 months, 6 sessions / 6 months. Outside program hours, you return home or to sober living. Our admissions line is available 24/7 if you need crisis support, and your case manager provides check-ins as needed.
Family programming is a critical component of recovery. We offer family therapy sessions, family education workshops, and guidance on healthy boundaries and communication. Recovery is a family process — we involve your support system with your permission.
We connect clients with local 12-step meetings, sober living referrals, and community resources in Bergen County and the greater NJ/NY metro area. After completing PHP, you transition seamlessly into our IOP program and eventually our "Family for Life" alumni community.

Together We Heal — Family Workshop FAQ

Family Program is our most intensive outpatient level — six days a week, 6 sessions / 6 months, for 6 months. It's designed for individuals stepping down from inpatient or those who need maximum structure. IOP meets in the evenings (5 or 3 days per week, 6-9 PM) and offers more flexibility for those who work or have family obligations. Both include group therapy, individual counseling, and evidence-based modalities. Your clinical team recommends the right level based on your assessment.
Most clients are in PHP for 6 months, though the exact duration depends on your clinical progress and individual needs. Your treatment team reviews your progress at weekly Wednesday team meetings and adjusts the timeline accordingly. When you're ready, you'll transition to IOP (Stage 2: Activate) in our 4-stage recovery model.
A typical PHP day runs 6 sessions / 6 months: process groups (9-10:30), psychoeducation (10:30-12), catered lunch (12-1), Health & Wellness (1-2), and elective programming (2-3). Group sizes are capped at fewer than 10 clients. You'll also have 1-2 individual therapy sessions per week scheduled separately.
Yes. Valley Spring offers a dedicated women's track within PHP that provides gender-specific group therapy addressing trauma, family dynamics, body image, co-dependency, and other issues that disproportionately affect women in recovery. The women's track runs alongside the general PHP schedule.
Our board-certified physicians manage MAT protocols including Suboxone, Vivitrol, Brixadi, Naltrexone, and Topamax. Medication decisions are individualized and integrated with your overall treatment plan. Your psychiatrist will evaluate which medications, if any, are appropriate for your recovery during your initial assessment.
We accept 16 major insurance plans including Horizon, NYSHIP, Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Amerihealth, Oscar, Meritain, Fidelis, United Healthcare, UMR, Tricare, Compsych, Highmark, and Magellan. Our admissions team verifies your specific benefits — call (201) 781-8812 or use our online verification form.
Call us at (201) 781-8812 or submit your information through our online insurance verification form. Our admissions team contacts your provider directly, verifies PHP coverage, determines your out-of-pocket costs, and handles all pre-authorization paperwork. The process typically takes a few hours and is completely confidential and obligation-free.
If your current plan doesn't cover PHP, our admissions team will work with you to explore alternatives — including out-of-network benefits, payment plans, and other coverage options. We believe cost should never be a barrier to treatment and will do everything possible to find a path forward.
In most cases, we can complete your assessment and insurance verification within 24-48 hours. Many patients begin PHP programming the same week they call. Our admissions team is available 24/7 at (201) 781-8812 and will walk you through every step from your first call to your first day.
Valley Spring Recovery Center is located at 830 Broadway, Norwood, NJ 07648 — in Bergen County, just 20 minutes from the George Washington Bridge. We're easily accessible from northern New Jersey and the greater NYC metro area. Free parking is available on-site.
Absolutely. Family involvement is a critical component of recovery. We offer family therapy sessions, family education workshops, and guidance on healthy boundaries and communication. With your permission, we involve your support system in the treatment process — because recovery is a family effort.
After PHP (Open to Public & Families), you transition to IOP (Stage 2: Activate) with the same clinical team and facility. From there, you progress through Virtual IOP or outpatient (Stage 3: Accelerate) and into our lifelong alumni community (Stage 4: Thrive). We never discharge you into a void — there's always a next step.
